Croix Gagnon / Frank Schott

Frank Schott is a photographer who collaborated with Croix Gagnon to photographically reconstruct a dead inmate who donated his body to science. Each image is constructed by shooting long exposure shots of an animation held up by an assistant. The animation represents the data set of the male cadaver, featured on the Visible Human Project. Variations in the movement of the computer create different shapes of the human body during shutter exposure. What I think is interesting about this project is that it seems to express the ghost of the dead prisoner through an artistic aesthetic. It uses fine art as a tool to reconstruct a dead body, a task normally taken on by those in the scientific field.

  1. I really enjoy this photo. I love long exposed shots and with the lighting the way it looks like a ghost is very intriguing. Love it!
