Marlena Artis - Wen Hang Lin post 8

1) Which of the artist's many technical choices are of interest to you and why?

Wen Hang Lin uses a variety of colors and sceneries, overlaying different images on top of each other. He does so by rewinding film that's already exposed, capturing two completely unconnected events. The result of this is beautifully abstracted sceneries and portraits fused together. I have always been fond of double exposure images.

2) What do you believe are the artist's conceptual and/or thematic intentions?

I believe the artist's conceptual intention is that he wanted to use Synesthesia as a metaphor for others to think about the perception in each photograph in his series, "Silence in Synesthesia". I believe he wanted to blindly tie together completely unrelated events or scenes together in order to create a unique experience within one image. All of his photographs display a diverse range of senses, visually representing Synesthesia.

3) How do you personally respond to these choices and intents?

I love how every photograph is so beautifully composed with many different colors, textures, and subjects. It's really impressive that Wen Hang Lin can create such stunning images simply from double exposing film with random unconnected sceneries. The use of Synesthesia as a metaphor for his series was very clever, it definitely brings attention to how all of these different colors and scenes come together to make a unique composition.
