amanda burton -Calvin Acosta post 9

1.Which of the artists many technical choices are of interest to you and why?
Acosta uses close ups to emphasize on the beauty of color. He uses makeup to draw the viewer to a certain feature on the body. It is simple enough to intrigue us and not too crazy to make us look away. He gets up close to his subjects to get the detail in the makeup or paint on the lips or eyes. We can really see the pigment of the colors in his editing style as well.

2. What do you believe are the artists conceptual and/or thematic intentions?
The artists intention is to draw the reader to understand the beauty of a woman. The way the light hits the makeup on the eyes or lips intrigues us and is telling us how he thinks the features should be highlighted. His studio lighting indicates he wanted maybe a closed shoot for the woman to feel more comfortable in a space rather out in public.

3. How do you personally respond to these choices and intents?
I respond to his choices in a good way. I am not one to use studio lighting much and he is showing me a level of intimacy I did not know existed in there. I have tried a couple of bold makeup looks before but none close enough like his to really understand the story he is trying to tell. I would love to see more of this series.
