Dora Maar, was born
November 22, 1907 and died July 16, 1997. Although she was best known for being
Picasso’s muse, Dora Maar was also a talented photographer. She was born in Paris, France, and was the
daughter of the archtecht Henriette Theodora Markovic.
Her work has a lot of strong textual elements to it. To me the textures offer a strange link to her reality. Using texture to draw the viewer in to her reality. Her photos in brick settings serve as an example of this. The surface of the bricks gets a captured in way that our minds understand what those particular bricks would feel like. From there you get an understanding of the surreal environments she creates.
