Dave McKenzie was born in 1977 in Kingston, Jamaica. He graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, PA with a BFA in Printmaking.
The Proposal, 2007. This piece brought up the idea that one could see a painting or own a painting and it will leave his field of view, go into storage or leave the museum. He wanted people to be able to connect to each other through a piece of art work.
This was a bag people could use if they were stressed out as a reminder to keep calm.
In this work he made bobble heads of himself and dressed as a bobble head and handed them out to people who came to the museum. This was so people would bring home a bobble head of a non celebrity when guests would ask them who it was they could be like "Oh just this guy I met once."
I like this work because his intention is to bring people closer together and have a positive effect on people.
I really like the idea of using work so interactively for the simple purpose of bringing people closer to each other. There's something very humbling about that art, I think.
