Morris Louis

Morris Louis was a Color Field painter back in the 1950s. I saw one of his works at the Met when I went to New York to see the Biennial at the Whitney. I don't what captured/attracted me to it, but it became one of my favorite contemporary works in the museum.

It's bigger than life sized and the cavas just consumes you. I didn't realize that he also did this painting, an example of Color Field that was in my Art History textbook in high school

I chose him as my non-photographer this week because for some reason, I'm really attracted to Color Field, while most people hate it or think it's a waste of time. He was heavenly influenced by Jackson Pollock, which you can see in this painting, Charred Journal: Firewritten V

  1. I really love the colour use in his images and can see the Pollock influence, my favourite is definitely the middle one, its so simple but intriguing at the same time? It sort of reminds me of the very hungry caterpillar.
