Francesca Woodman

Francesca Woodman attended the Rhode Island School of Design in 1975 and shortly after creating most of her work committed suicide in 1981. Most of her work features herself or a female model with a focus on the nude body and blur. I like the eeriness of her photographs and how she approaches nudity in an interesting way, like with the tape around her legs.

Check out more of her work here.

  1. very eerie, I always think it's fascinating when an artist's life ends up emulating their work. (even though in this case, it is quite tragic)

  2. Hey I saw this artist last week when I was looking for things to blog, I thought it was crazy how her work almost prophecized her suicide with the eerie, timeless nudes.

  3. On the note of her suicide, I think its incredibly tragic that she (seemed to) kill herself due to being rejected from jobs and funding after she graduated college, but now that she is dead her work is so noticed. Makes me think about what makes tragedy so appealing to people.
