1.Which of the artists many technical choices are of interest to you and why?
I am interested in Blackwood's choice to stage her male models in passive stances. Classical imagery of men has their bodies posed in action or confidently acknowledging the viewer's gaze. In practically all of Blackwood's photos, the men's faces aren't even in the frame. In the one image where the man's face is shown his glance doesn't match the viewer's. The men's poses are reminiscent of classical imagery of women's bodies which were usually intended for the male gaze. In a sense the men are objectified, but not disrespectfully I believe.

2. What do you believe are the artists conceptual and/or thematic intentions?
Blackwood intends to show a different side of masculinity, not the feminine side. Men aren't feminine. She intends to show the humble, passive, and gentle side of men, traits that are normally considered feminine. She allows the viewer to appreciate the beauty of the male body in a different light.

3. How do you personally respond to these choices and intents?
I have a strange fondness for these images as a heterosexual female. I miss being able to see humble, passive, and gentle side of a man, as I would if I were in a relationship. The images are beautiful in their honest portrayal of the humanity beyond the facade of masculinity. I believe these photographs portray some of the true strengths of men.
