Khalik Allah
Allah's black and white film photography utilizes grain, slow exposures and shallow depth of field to yield soft images of sometimes abrasive things. His street photography gives a candid feeling to his sitters, but he also makes it visible that he somehow exhibits control over how he wants to represent them in the photos.
Allah's photography seems to be also about mundane things in life, especially in the city that are actually worth taking look at and understanding. His grainy images suit the city life he represents so well.
Everything that they tell you is wrong, Allah makes right in his film photography. Grain, texture, motion blur and shallow depth of field create a story of what he is trying to portray. I appreciate his outlook, because with photography and my own experience in film I like to see the process, growth and the imperfect through the photo.
