Sierra Doucette- Weekly Artist Post

Kathy Klein

Kathy Klein uses organic materials like flower petals to create mandalas full of color and symmetry. She uses vibrant colors and makes the flower arrangement the center of each photo. All of her photos are very clear, so she probably uses a digital camera with a fast shutter speed and closed aperture.

Klein creates her mandalas in a state of meditation and focus. Mandalas are used in Buddhism to symbolize the cyclical nature of life. Klein believes that they can capture the human existence in one picture.

I really like the composition of her photos. I love the colors and the symmetry. I like that she physically creates her picture- it reminds me of a painting where you start with a blank canvas and end up with something completely different. Klein doesn't just take pictures of flowers naturally growing, she uses them to make something entirely different to photograph.
