Mary Pforr- Week 5 Artist post

Artist: Jeff Traugott
Photo Cred: http://austinkamps.tumblr.com/

i. Taugott's photos aren't always completely in focus- yet it gives an interesting blend of the colors and emphasis of the subjects in the photos. They are almost always over exposed with a higher amount of noise. The focus is usually in the foreground of the photographs, yet it is somewhat unnoticeable. Not that that would take away from the value of the photo, yet it allows the photo as a whole to come together.
ii. It has been discussed that possibly Jeff uses the bicycle as a symbol in his photos- however I am also able to see a possible concept of "brotherhood." Human interaction with mother nature, enjoying their environment, leaving no harm, displaying their care for the outdoors.
iii. Traugott's photos give a sense of nostalgia that I thoroughly enjoy- I immediately think back to the somewhat blurry Polaroids my grandmother would take of my brother and I when we were kids. It is unique in that he is not striving for the "perfect capture" of the frame- yet he strives to capture an effect he gets from what he is seeing.
