Ayana Chavis - Weekly Artist Post

1. Hugo's work seems to have a gritty effect at times, sometimes dreamy depending on how he is trying to represent his subjects. He makes mostly portraits.

2. Thematically, he seems to be trying to represent South African culture between white and black, sometimes mixed familial structures.

3. I had seen one of Hugo's images before, the infamous African man with the hyena jumping on him.  It was interesting to see the rest of his work to develop a context.
