Sally Mann

Sally Mann is a locally born photographer from Virginia who has definitely made a name for herself. She does photo manipulation, but not in Photoshop but in the way she exposes her film into light, which I think was a defining factor that made her stand out in the art world. Working with actual film, especially with camera from the early 20th century, takes a lot more time and money to capture the right moment.

There are thousands of rejects that she's accumulated just so she can get that one perfect photograph.

Her main subjects are her family members, which got her a bit of controversy because she started photographing her children when they were very young.
