Diane Arbus

Diane Arbus was an American photographer who captured human oddities. I love how harsh the subjects can be and how she embraced and celebrated the flaws of people. Although it seems that she wanted to be separated from her work towards the end of her life, I think her photographs are important in that they show a range of people that do not normally get exposure. Her life and work is definitely worth researching.

  1. Her work is really cool because it's so confrontational even though these people are just being themselves. It's also interesting to look at these images today and see how these types of people aren't viewed as human oddities that much anymore.

  2. Many of her photographs have this gritty, raw feel to them and I absolutely love it. She photographs so many different types of people that you can't pinpoint a collective theme to her work, which I think was a smart move of her. Her models range from different ends of the spectrum and she captures them all beautifully.
