Peter Funch



This is the image that first made me interested in Peter Funch's work - a crowd of people stopped dead, mid-yawn. I admire the humour in it, it's simple, but effective. More than the humour though I enjoy how effective this crowd shot is - it makes you want to notice everybody in the image.

In this image in particular I really like his use of depth of field - it makes the viewer (or at least me) feel like I'm in the picture - looking at this image over the man's out of focus head.

I think the thing I like most about Funch's work is his ability to unify a group of people through a single image and simultaneously make a comment - there is something striking and noticeable about a group of people all doing the same thing (even more noticeable when they're unaware they're doing it).
