Taylor Stevenson: Joshua Hoffine on Fear

Joshua Hoffine is a photographer who photographs common fears we have as young children. Originally Hoffine started his project on childhood fairy tale imagery, once he started to do his research on these fairy tales he began to see a parallelism between them and horror stories. Suddenly his perspective changed to horror stories being the modern day fairy tales.

His work makes a slightly uncomfortable situation into a comical one through the use of vibrant colors and the innocence that his subjects hold. Mostly using children as subjects because they seem to be the most subseptable to these horrid nightmares Hoffine is able to capture the vulnerability of each subject. Also in majority of his pictures the subject seems to be oblivious of the danger they are in because they stay calm showing that they are defenseless.
