Annie Leibovitz

So I'm going with a big timer this week. Annie Leibovitz is the kind of photographer who's work everyone has seen even if they don't know her name. Over the course of her career she has taken many incredible portraits of celebrities and politicians. Her most famous work is probably the portrait of John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The photo of Lennon and Ono appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in 1980, and it was taken 5 hours before John Lennon was killed in New York City. During her time with Rolling Stone Annie Leibovitz had a massive impact on the style of the magazine's cover photos (by basically creating it herself).
Leibovitz is the type of portrait photographer who dives into the heart of her subject. She takes time to understand who they are and what they represent. She doesn't just take time to organize a technically proficient photograph, but rather she looks for the individuality in her subjects and creates an environment  in which to capture a moment that portrays who they are.
