Erwin Olaf- Lexi Wilson

Erwin Olaf is a photographer that mixes studio photography and photojournalism. Many of his photographs are shot in an extremely profound depth of field. He shoots with a Hasselblad 6x6 centimeter. This camera gives incredible focus to the point where you can count every little hair. As a result, his images evoke a somewhat surreal fealing. Olaf's conceptually provocative style has been noted by the advertising world, as he has been commissioned by well known brands such as Louis Vuitton, Diesel Jeans, and many others.

Olaf is known to address social issues and taboos in his images in a very stylized way. He strives to document the unspoken and overlooked. Hoping to raise awareness, he investigates topics such as class, race, sexual taste, belief, habits and grace. In his recent series, Keyhole, he has his subject face the opposite direction of the camera. This piece provokes the viewer to think about intimacy balanced with shame and feelings of guilt. His unconventional style never fails to provide dramatic visuals and emotional impact.
