Marta Berens is a Polish artist who is fascinated with the idea of portraying fairytale like images for the inspiration of her child and others. Her photography choices include subjects of natural beauty and intrigue, and focus mainly on contrast of light and color.
I chose these images because they reminded me of paintings, which is my nearest and most familiar medium personally.  I'm particularly interested in the way that Berens is able to draw out such dramatic colors and textures in a photo. An understanding of this is something that I aspire to. I am also very attracted to this subject matter.
Berens hoped to communicate a fairytale like world through her photos. She chose these subjects, I believe, for their fairytale-esque themes. A wolf in the wood, deer in a silent glade, and a burning tree are all fantastical subject matters that are likely to be found in children's stories, but can also be found in real life, furthering Berens's mission to create photos that show fairytales as something of a realistic idea.
