Bruce Davidson


Davidson was born in Illinois in 1933, and was raised by his single mother, a factory worker, who built him a darkroom when he was 10 years old. After attending the Rochester Institute of Technology and Yale, Davidson was drafted into the U.S. army and given routine photo assignments. His success in this department earned him autonomy in his work and granted him the opportunity to refine his technique.

 His most notable work includes Time of Change, in which Davidson chronicled the events and effects of the movement between 1961-65. Perhaps his most famous body of work is East 100 Street, a 2 year documentation of the infamous block in East Harlem.
