Martin Amis is a photojournalist based in the UK and has
been in exhibitions in Toronto, New York, UK, etc. Most of his pictures are
documentary based. A lot of his photographs are very in-the-moment, and this
feel greatly effects the composition of his pieces. In his work from “Faces of
New York”, his most striking photos seem unframed and have flaws in exposure. I
also think that where some of his portraits are purposely unframed, his
landscapes are very carefully framed and structured.
Amis’ works hold a strange sense of urgency. Again with his
‘New York’ based project, it seems as though all these photos were completely
unplanned at the same time as being precise and all having alike
characteristics. I’m also very inspired by the way he approaches landscapes
because I feel like while many of them are traditionally organized, there is
always something original of different about each.
