Alex Prager is a photographer and filmmaker who lives and works in Los Angeles and New York city. A huge part of her work stems from following these beautiful blonde women around and documenting the space in which they exist. Her photographs are very vibrantly colored, and compositionally sound. There is also an undertone of heighten drama and dark and twisted humor wrapped around her photography. She has been featured in many fashion magazines and many museums all over the world. She takes inspiration from cinematic styles of films and contemporary subtexts from other artist such as David Finch and Cindy Sherman.
She mentions in her artist's statement that these girls' illusion of the world they live became so constant in their lives that it became their reality. The photographs lead to audiences believing in a hidden narrative but with some ambiguity so that the stories remain mysterious. Alex Prager does this because she wishes to capture the beautiful yet wicked sides of Los Angeles and the women that preoccupy the city. She wishes to capture the unease and dirtiness of the glamour stereotyped by these cities. "I stage my pictures with this place in mind. A place where dreams die quietly."
