Timothy Archibald is best known for
his collaborations with his Autistic son. Many of his work has been featured in
Communication Arts Photography Annual, American Photography Annual and have
been exhibited in places such as The Australian Centre for Photography, Zephyr
Mannheim Gallery in Germany and Videotage in Hong Kong.
I enjoy Archibald’s work because it gives people the colorful and creative way to glimpse inside an Autistic person’s mind. By using unique styles of photography to portray what may be going on inside the minds of Autistic people, he shows the special and fascinating way they see things as opposed to what people without Autism may ignore or take advantage of.

Each picture portrays the feelings
an autistic person may have about a certain concept. The first picture is
fascinating because of the curiosity portrayed by the boy about space. The
second picture is compelling due to the many details throughout the picture
such as the boy’s pants and the chalk drawings of the continents. It also
displays interesting color contrasts that keep the photo interesting and easy
to look at. The third picture is by far the most interesting because it shows
how certain things bother Autistic people whereas those without Autism would
ignore those noises. Archibald’s photography is something that I want to try to
capture. By using creative methods it could dispel stigmas and stereotypes that
are associated with mental illness.
