Sarah Kaufman - Homebody
As a photographer who has been reviewed in The Philadelphia
Inquirer and ARTnews Magazine, Kaufman has displayed her work in both solo
exhibitions and group exhibitions. She received her BA from Haverford College
and she also attended Virginia Commonwealth University for her MFA.
I enjoy Sarah Kaufman’s work because
of how much detail she puts into her pictures yet, she makes her images so
simple looking. If you study her images closely you can pinpoint color contrast
that were well thought out and objects that seem to be a mistake in the frame
yet, are deliberately added to the picture to add to the image’s uniqueness.
I’m compelled by these three images
because all of them have a unique quirkiness to them. The top image is by far
my favorite because of how different it is. How often do you see someone stand
in a fireplace? The bottom left picture I enjoy because of the one yellow
plastic bag that holds all the different colored yarns inside of it. Also, it’s
a great representation of peoples’ lives and the messiness of everything in
life. The bottom right image I enjoy because of how the subject is placed in a
high space inside the frame. The picture looks so effortless and simple yet,
the detail used to apply the color contrasts throughout the picture, such as,
the subject’s pants against the white cabinets, shows how much effort Kaufman
put into them.
