Weekly Artist Post

Delaney Allen

1)
In all three of Allen's images there seems to be some sort of cloud-like presence that obscures most of the landscape behind. Furthermore, the primary light source in all three images is near the top third of the images. Allen is probably shooting at a high shutter speed for the bottom 2 images and perhaps even the first image. I do not know if i'm really explaining this correctly but i think that he intended to reveal these clouds by having the bolder textures near the bottom of the image and having them build up in lighter layers as they reach the light source at the top.

2)
I think he's trying to show the importance of coincidence in nature. Images like these can almost draw an emotion from the viewer without actually expressing a certain meaning. All of his images contain smoke, dust, or cloud formations of some sort, particles that disperse. I think this suggests how we approach and examine things that we must confront quickly, at first it is dark and bold but as we become more and more familiar the confusion disperses and things become lighter and brighter until we have completely eliminated the darkness and revealed the mystery.

3)
I really like Allen's style, although it might be difficult and almost impossible to really depict his intents. I think it just depends on the person's perspective and outlook on life but his conceptual intents seem very vague. One thing is true, he has a true appreciation for the mystical aspects in spontaneity and in nature.  Beyond that i'm not really sure what he is trying to express. I think its really amazing how he uses the lightening of the textures to build layers and show depth. I don't know if this was his intent but i like the theme of finding light through or at the end of some sort of haze.
