Ziyah Gafic- Abbey Reddington

Ziyah Gafic focuses on societies in conflict and transition, and the aftermath of war. Since 1999, he has completed projects in his native Bosnia as well as Palestine, Israel, Kurdistan, Iraq, Ossetia, Rwanda, Chechnya and Afghanistan. In 2002, he won Kodak's Award for young reporters, several world press Photo hours, and in 2007 he was nominated for UNICEF's Photographer of the year. His images are beyond breathtaking, demonstrating brilliant examples of emotion and color. Bravery doesn't even begin to explain Ziyah's portfolio full of controversy and pain.

Emotion is demonstrated by light, eye contact, and color. Light illuminates the main person in each photo that portrays the context. The blues in the third photo create a melancholy scene but it remains calm. The melancholy feeling is portrayed by the the lack of light, and the calmness comes form the ocean shade of blue. Second photo's color scheme of blue and yellow creates a lovely contrast, and the lack of eye contact shows weakness. Going into environments that one does not "belong" in order to expose conditions to those who can make a difference shows extreme bravery and facing of fears.
