Lennette Newell is an international commercial and fine art photographer. She took her interest in animal photography with her to University of Nebraska, where she studied photography. To capture such beautiful images that show the relationship between animals and humans, she has to conquer her fear of being around such huge, dangerous animals. One of her main techniques in her photography is to create a relationship between the subject and herself. Though Newell used to be a film photographer, using a Polaroid, she made the transfer to digital photography in her college years. Newell uses both natural lighting and studio lighting space in her photographs, and does not have a preference. In her 'Ani-Human' series, she used a body painter to paint her model's bodies the color and texture of the animals they were standing with.
Thematically, Lennette Newell focuses mainly on the relationship between humans and animals. Though most of her work focuses completely on animals, her most well known series 'Ani-Human' uses human models. The use of models shows a connection that people and animals can have together. She wants her viewers lives to become richer with the ability to see these animals, mostly endangered, as beautiful creatures. Newell feels strongly that animals are a very important part of life, and that a connection with them is almost just as strong. One of her other priorities in her photography is to draw attention to the conservation of endangered animals, as well as the importance of treating animals like people.
