Abbey Reddington- Corey Arnold
Corey Arnold understands the power of color. A photographer residing in Portland Oregon, Corey has spent over fifteen seasons as a commercial fisherman in Alaska. His series that follows commercial fisherman is called Fish-Work. I also included a picture from his less known, but hysterical series, Human Animals. Many images in his portfolio prove humorous, even in the Fish-Work series. Successfully finding silliness in a demanding and dangerous job.
Arnold favors crisp, clear images with simple but compelling color choices. His favorite color combination is the natural blue found in the sky, continuing into the ocean, contrasting with the unnatural orange uniforms worn by the workers. Light generally generates from a corner, and if not openly present the image appears stormy, playing with the theme of a fisherman's daily troubles. The images appear light and fun, one including men in bright baggy onesies, sprawled happily in a mound of fish. Movement, another common element, proves Arnold's photography skills. No matter the challenge with low light and fast f-stops, he captures clear and noise free images (the dripping blood in the final image.)
