Gene Kim: Kylli Sparre

Coming out of her professional ballet career, Kylli Sparre realized photography was the outlet to express her creativity and emotions.  Displaying her image manipulation skills, Sparre creates works of surreal subtlety that gravitates the viewers into keep looking at the photos.  Often using herself as a model in many of her projects, the frames capture unspoken choreographies and movements frozen in time.

Whereas many artists take extensive focus on manipulation via computer editing, Sparre also utilizes illusions within the shot using placement of subjects to enhance and amplify the effects she wants to vibrate.  Color relationship is quite crucial, as noted in the last duo; while the first figure lays in a bed of grass illuminating tones of red, violet, and pink, her dress reflects the colors mimicking rose petals.  The second figure with antlers, as she looks off into the distance, the cold blue of the winter bites as her dress, relating to the steel green trees in the background.
