Vivian Maier moved to American from Europe in the 1950's. She got her start in New york. Two years after moving to the Big Apple, Maier would begin her photography career. However, she kept her work hidden from others. over the years she would compile an archive of over 100,000 negatives. She would become known for her street photography, similar to Bresson. Her proper timing of her portraits are shown in her work.
Most of her work stayed hidden for years, until it was discovered in a foreclosed storage unit and auctioned off. These found negatives shocked and inspired many.
One of the things i think i fear in photography are self-portraits. Im always the one behind the lens, not in front, so whenever I found myself being photographed its sort of shocking and uncomfortable. Here are some examples of fantastic self-portraits.
