Kendrix Brown - Artist Post #2

Gus Powell is a New York born photographer most notably known for his street photography. His famous body of work, entitled Manhattan Noon was exhibited at the Museum of the City of New York and he's also been published in Vogue, BIG, Wired, Fortune, W, and the The New Yorker.

I was draw to his photography because of the human element. The idea of people occupying the same external space while simultaneously occupying their own internal space is miraculous in my opinion. His street photography is a great depiction of every individual having their own story. Each story is a unique manifestation of the (un)manifested, the source from which we all originate. To explore that duality and the interdependence of each manifestation is something that I am deeply compelled towards.

Gus finds inspiration for his photography in both locations and the people. Sometimes there's a certain element of light that he falls in love with or a person that he's attracted to. He always attempts to tell a story with the composition of the photo, the framing, and the subjects. He enjoys the idea the people he photographs often have nothing to do with each other be will forever be linked together through his work.
