Stacy Kranitz
1) Stacy Kranitz is a photographer enthralled by capturing moments among those who would unlikely be photographed and sexualized as objects. She spends much of her time in her car traveling around Appalachia. Here, she explores class, sexism, race, and exploitation.
2) I believe these pictures depict scenes in which Kranitz manipulated the subjects to pose in a certain way. These photos demonstrate the demeanor in which these people would pose to show themselves in the same light as would any celebrity or model etc. These people all present themselves in a somewhat confident way, not necessarily as objects, but as people manipulated in the environment in which they live.
3) Kranitz is likely interested in depicting people in their own environment, but presented in a way in which we are accustomed to seeing in the media. These people, who live amongst a different class or race, present themselves perhaps as who they see themselves as. This self-identification to Kranitz is more beautiful and realistic than the women or men depicted as objects in the media today. These pictures are far more real and engaging.
