The diverse
types of women and outfits seen throughout are a few of my favorite choices in
this series. They wear bold clothing and have daring gazes that are simply
powerful and inspiring. Thankfully, the photographer also chose to never make
portraits looking down upon the women, for this would break their concept completely. They
also were very conscience of their locations and how this would speak for their
concept as well.
Conceptually,
Cohen and Voss chose to portray women in an empowering manor by recreating
icons with unexpected diversity. They took old dilapidated icons and turned
them into more relatable and stunning 21st century women. Their concept
is not only unique but also carefully designed to fully empower each women
photographed. I quite enjoy that they do not have an intensely deep concept,
yet it is still firm and powerful.
While first
observing their Metamorphosis series, I was simply in love with the
uniqueness and beauty of each photo. The vibrancy and emotion is clearly
evident for me. I found myself considering how and what empowerment looks like,
and I believe this is a very good example. The women seem to be glowing in a
way that demands respect and recognition for who they are not who the icon was prior.
