1. Lissa Rivera is a Brooklyn, New York based photographer, who focuses on social history of photography.
2. The first photograph is the most powerful of many of the photographs that are apart of Rivera's project "Beautiful Boy" about an genderqueer individual, BJ, and it explores how gender can be perceived differently based on strictly genitals, and by framing BJ's head closely, to show that it might be difficult or stressful presenting oneself like that. The second photograph is a standard landscape photo with the subject framed by a hand covered by a glove that almost matches the subjects lip color, to stand out against the overwhelming amount of green in the photograph. The third photo is a portrait framed by a mirror, with the objects near the mirror out of focus.
3. This series of photographs explores what being genderqueer is about, in a private sense. These photographs are created with the subject in mind, and not the viewers gaze.
