Wim Wenders
The artist, Wim Wenders, uses the contrast of natural backgrounds and human made structures. This works particularly well in the photos of the western United States where rugged landscapes still abound. Wenders uses color contrast and light contrast in unison with the contrast of landscapes and buildings.
All three of these pictures include buildings but the photo's are not photo's of buildings. The 1st photo captures the image of the western plains. The 2nd photo focuses on the large sky and desert setting. The 3rd photo shows a rolling hill landscape and the edge of the forest. All of these pictures also capture a man made building which invites the viewer to wonder what these landscapes would look like without the newer addition.
I was compelled by this photographer because he was able to take pictures of landscapes and buildings without the purpose of the photo really being neither. The photographer instead makes a statement about America's earlier westward expansion.
