Andreas Gursky

Gursky is a German artist known for his larger-than-life (or perhaps just as large) scale photographs depicting architecture, landscapes, and masses of people. They are usually taken from a high perspective, giving off a vibe of omniscience and offering a different viewpoint of the human species. He uses the digital medium to further the formal elements of his works--this is a nice example of how digital processes can really emphasize a body of work.
"In the early 1990s he began using digital tools to heighten formal elements and circumvent the limits of perspective in his pictures. "
The photos almost resemble paintings in their scale and attention to formal elements.

  1. That Board of Trade photograph is amazing. The sheer size of that room and how many people it can hold is shown through the angle of which he shot at. It took my breath away for a second to be honest.
