1. which of the artist many technical choices are of interest to you and why?
It's easy to say Shulman is known for creating some of the most iconic architecture photography. When I think of this line of work, I automatically assume that the goal is to show off all aspects of the architecture in the most even and purest light. Shulman decided to use high contrast with lighting to separate and accentuate different parts of the architecture.
2. what do you believe are the artist conceptual and/or thematic intentions?
Obviously Shulman leaned towards modern architecture. Nevertheless, my belief is that he used lighting and shadow to soften his work and make the scene and architecture more complex. The differences in lighting added depth and layers to his work.
3. how do you personally respond to these choices and intents?
I find his work to be incredible. Not only did Shulman capture the architecture, but he also posed the setting of the architecture just enough for us to gain an understanding of atmosphere that surrounds the building(s).
